I much preferred the humanity classes like English and History, so getting me excited about math and science was hard to do. "Dr. Oberman was my math teacher in high school for Geometry in 10th grade. However, I also visited his office during school lunch many times when I had other math teachers, seeking his help with the homework I had. I was medically diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD/ADD when I was very young, around the age of 10 or 11. I always found my strengths as an English/History student, rather than in math and sciences. Despite my challenges, Dr. Oberman assured me that I wasn't bad at math and that everyone learns concepts at a different pace. Dr. Oberman was patient and adjusted his teaching style to accommodate the way I learned. This involved us using analogies, imagining math problems in specific scenarios, and even incorporating hands-on learning that went beyond pen and paper. Even when I didn't understand which learning style or way of explanation that would be the best approach for the math topic I was studying, Dr. Oberman still managed to help me conceptually understand what I was learning, not just "retain the info." Now, I am in the workforce, working in consulting with a master's degree. I couldn't imagine taking math in High School without Dr. Oberman's support."—Kevin, student

"I’m a person who generally dreads math class, and especially math homework. I always feel like I’m playing catch-up in math classes, understanding what’s going on only right before (or sometimes after) the exam. I came into Dr. Oberman’s geometry class without the requisite algebra background, yet because he is uniquely capable of teaching to all levels and learning styles, I not only didn’t dread, but very much enjoyed, math class that year. Dr. Oberman teaches math in such a way that the student understands not only how to solve the problem in front of them, but also how that problem relates to the real world and to a bigger picture in math, which makes the skills you learn with Dr. Oberman transferable to other classes as well. Dr. Oberman is extremely generous with his time and so patient, no matter how many times you ask him to explain the same thing or how frequently you bug him in a panic before an exam. Last but certainly not least, Dr. Oberman is hilarious and transforms topics that some find dry into enjoyable and interesting lessons with jokes, analogies, and wit. I wish I had the chance to develop the sorts of skills and confidence in all of my math classes that I did in geometry with Dr. Oberman.
